Andreas Senoner
Andreas Senoner’s sculptural practice investigates form as a transitory condition. His works do not depict stable identities, but rather states of suspension, moments in which body, matter, and environment come into relation and mutually transform one another.
The artist’s roots lie in the Dolomitic context of Val Gardena, a region with centuries-old traditions tied to wood sculpture, absorbed by the artist from early childhood and later reworked through academic and international experiences.
At the heart of Senoner’s artistic language is wood - both the soul and substance of his work. It transcends its material qualities to become a living organism, capable of holding time and containing the memory of past events: cracks, erosions, traces of burning or parasites are not hidden, but embraced as integral elements of the piece. The sculptures are then coated with organic materials, carefully selected for their symbolic weight or the geographic stories they carry, embodying that mystic aura characteristic of a still-evolving process.
Senoner’s works, hence, create spaces for contemplation where the viewer may recognise some extension of the self or drift into newly imagined landscapes.
